Current Development Focus

Stability & New Features

  • Due to our tech stack based on KMP (Kotlin Multiplatform), we've been monitoring some occasional crash issues that are difficult to fully diagnose. We're continuing to ship smaller, easier-to-verify updates that improve stability, data safety, and everyday workflows.

1.8.0 Rolling Out

  • v1.8.0 is now rolling out gradually on the App Store. We're actively monitoring the rollout and tracking any known issues that come up.
  • If you haven't received the update yet, open the App Store, search for ulives, and open the app's detail page to update manually.
  • See the Known Issues page for the latest status.

Near-future Updates

  • 🎯 Smart Grouping: Display smart lists/groups like "All Today's Tasks" for faster access to relevant tasks.
  • More Achievement Unlock Conditions: Support additional unlock conditions such as:
    • Weekly/monthly/yearly based conditions
    • Conditions based on reflections
    • Conditions related to unlocking other achievements

Exploratory Features (Experimental)

  • 🌐 Server-side integration experiments (asset library, more flexible membership validation, and other online capabilities).
  • Investigating capabilities related to Apple Health app data integration: such as sleep duration, step count, and experience point growth.

Maintenance Note

ulives is currently maintained by a very small team — in fact, just one developer working on it during spare time outside of their main job. We sincerely appreciate your patience and understanding.

On Development Pace & Quality:

We've observed the remarkable rise of AI-assisted development in recent years, where developers can bring apps to market in remarkably short timelines. Indeed, we've also leveraged AI to accelerate the implementation of feature skeletons and code scaffolding. However, AI is not a silver bullet — determining the right technical approach, validating the implementation, and ensuring everything works as intended still require significant human effort.

What truly takes time is the attention to detail. Perfecting iOS animations, refining interaction smoothness, polishing edge cases — these aspects often require several times more effort than the feature logic itself. We are committed to the long-term maintenance of ulives and our other apps. We have already outlined a multi-year development plan and goals for ulives, and we intend to see it through. This is especially true for an offline-first app like ulives, where we must ensure every version is backward-compatible, preserves data integrity, and introduces new features with minimal disruption. Each release undergoes thorough regression testing and careful validation to protect your data and deliver a reliable experience.

Cross-Platform Development Status

ulives is built on KMP (Kotlin Multiplatform) + Native UI, allowing shared business logic across platforms while keeping each platform's UI truly native.

🍎 Apple Ecosystem (iOS / iPadOS / macOS)

  • ulives already supports iOS, iPadOS, and Apple Silicon Macs (M-series) via SwiftUI.
  • We've made dedicated large-screen UI adaptations for iPad and macOS.
  • macOS Known Issue — Display Scaling: macOS runs iOS apps with a default scaling that may make fonts and layouts appear smaller than ideal. We are actively exploring solutions to improve this.
  • macOS Known Issue — Data Cleanup on Uninstall: macOS does not seem to proactively clear app data when uninstalling iOS-format apps, which may lead to unexpected issues. We recommend manually clearing app data if needed.

🤖 Android

  • We are steadily building out the Android UI layer and platform-specific capabilities in our spare time.
  • The current priority remains polishing the Apple ecosystem experience.
  • Challenge: Android requires implementing a custom UI that diverges from Material Design — achieving our own consistent visual language — which is non-trivial.

🪟 Windows / Web / HarmonyOS

  • Not yet explored. After the Android version is complete, we may evaluate plans for these platforms. The implementation difficulty is currently unknown.

Future Enhancements

Based on user feedback, we've identified several areas for improvement that may be flexibly scheduled for future releases:

User Experience Improvements

Advanced Features

  • 🤖 AI Assistance: Explore AI integration for features like suggesting relevant rewards or generating task ideas based on your goals
  • 🌐 Public Community Features: Long-term vision includes features for sharing task/achievement templates or 'roadmaps' with other users
  • Shortcuts Integration: Enable automation and integration with the Apple Shortcuts app

Development Notes

  • Flexible Scheduling: Development priorities can shift based on user feedback and technical challenges
  • Subject to Change: Features listed here might be modified, postponed, or even replaced
  • No Specific Timelines: We cannot commit to exact release dates for future features at this stage
