Current Development Focusโ€‹

Platform priorities (Android & HarmonyOS)

Android and HarmonyOS native apps are now live (Google Play & AppGallery, September 2026). We're prioritizing platform-specific polish, stability, and bug fixes on these newly launched versions:

Widgets & sheets

Home Screen widgets, bottom sheets, and other platform-native surfaces.

Backup & imports

Backup/restore flows and LifeUp data import polish.

Store flows

Purchase, membership, and review-related store flows.

Subtask experience (iOS & shared core)

We're actively improving subtask-related features that shipped with v1.10.0:

Batch-complete rules

When "complete together" is enabled, completing all subtasks also completes the parent task in one action.

Subtask Live Activity

Pin individual subtasks (not just the parent period) to the Dynamic Island or Lock Screen.

Pending cycle sheet

Handle subtasks directly in the pending-cycle popup (already on Android/Harmony in 1.10.2; rolling out on iOS in 1.10.3).

v1.10.10 (in development)

The next release integrates several features already merged on our development branch:

Restore without restart

Apply a restored backup immediately โ€” no app restart required.

Negative rewards

Support negative reward values (deduct items, XP, or currency) with cross-platform notifications.

Period-independent subtasks

Repeating tasks can keep independent subtask snapshots per cycle.

Statistics card layout

Choose which statistics cards appear and customize their display order.

Anonymous diagnostic export

Export anonymized diagnostic data to help troubleshoot issues.

Further ahead (exploratory)

From active branches and planned work โ€” no fixed timeline:

More auto-achievement conditions

Weekly/monthly/yearly rules, tag-based, reflection-based, and achievement-chain unlock conditions.

Shop limits

Per-item hold caps and purchase/use restrictions.

Apple Shortcuts

Dedicated Shortcuts actions for common ulives workflows.

Open automation API

An automation gateway so external tools can drive ulives actions.

System Calendar & Reminders

One-way Calendar sync; two-way Reminders with list selection and move-in modes.

Reflection Review

A dedicated place for browsing and reviewing archived reflections.

macOS display scaling

Display size settings and window scaling for Mac.

Health Lab refresh

UI polish for Health Lab and health-linked stage goals.

Exploratory (longer term)

Server-side integration experiments

Asset library, flexible membership validation, online capabilities.

Apple Health integration

Investigating sleep, steps, and XP growth linked to health data.

Maintenance Noteโ€‹

ulives is currently maintained by a very small team โ€” in fact, just one developer working on it during spare time outside of their main job. We sincerely appreciate your patience and understanding.

On Development Pace & Quality:

We've observed the remarkable rise of AI-assisted development in recent years, where developers can bring apps to market in remarkably short timelines. Indeed, we've also leveraged AI to accelerate the implementation of feature skeletons and code scaffolding. However, AI is not a silver bullet โ€” determining the right technical approach, validating the implementation, and ensuring everything works as intended still require significant human effort.

What truly takes time is the attention to detail. Perfecting iOS animations, refining interaction smoothness, polishing edge cases โ€” these aspects often require several times more effort than the feature logic itself. We are committed to the long-term maintenance of ulives and our other apps. We have already outlined a multi-year development plan and goals for ulives, and we intend to see it through. This is especially true for an offline-first app like ulives, where we must ensure every version is backward-compatible, preserves data integrity, and introduces new features with minimal disruption. Each release undergoes thorough regression testing and careful validation to protect your data and deliver a reliable experience.

Cross-Platform Development Statusโ€‹

ulives is built on KMP (Kotlin Multiplatform) + Native UI, allowing shared business logic across platforms while keeping each platform's UI truly native.

Apple Ecosystem (iOS / iPadOS / macOS)

Live
  • Already supports iOS, iPadOS, and Apple Silicon Macs (M-series) via SwiftUI.
  • Dedicated large-screen UI adaptations for iPad and macOS.
  • macOS Known Issue โ€” Display Scaling: macOS runs iOS apps with a default scaling that may make fonts and layouts appear smaller than ideal. Display size settings and window scaling are planned for a future update.
  • macOS Known Issue โ€” Data Cleanup on Uninstall: macOS does not seem to proactively clear app data when uninstalling iOS-format apps, which may lead to unexpected issues. We recommend manually clearing app data if needed.

Android

Live ยท Sep 2026
  • Available on Google Play since September 2026.
  • UI adaptation and polish continue; some details may still feel rough. Feedback is welcome from About โ†’ Feedback.

HarmonyOS

Live ยท Sep 2026
  • Available on AppGallery since September 2026 (phones & tablets).
  • Home Screen widgets and some system capabilities may arrive later; we're improving backup, sharing, and platform-specific flows first.

Windows / Web

Not started

Not yet explored. We may evaluate these platforms after Android and Harmony stabilize.

Future Enhancementsโ€‹

Based on user feedback, we've identified several areas for improvement that may be flexibly scheduled for future releases:

Advanced Features

AI Assistance

Explore AI integration for features like suggesting relevant rewards or generating task ideas based on your goals.

Online Asset Library

Long-term vision includes an online library for sharing task/achievement templates and other assets with other users.

Development Notesโ€‹

  • Flexible Scheduling: Development priorities can shift based on user feedback and technical challenges
  • Subject to Change: Features listed here might be modified, postponed, or even replaced
  • No Specific Timelines: We cannot commit to exact release dates for future features at this stage
